Is elo boosting bannable in 2026?

Published 28 October 2026 · 8 min read · by the Next Level Boost team

Yes. Elo boosting is against Riot's Terms of Service, and in 2026 Riot actively detects it and bans for it. Riot's own enforcement FAQ lists a 3 day ban for a first offence, 14 days for a second and a permanent ban for a third, plus losing the LP, MMR and ranked rewards gained. The risk is real, not zero, and anyone who tells you a boost is "100 percent safe" is not being straight with you. Here is what Riot actually says, what it detects, and how the risk differs between account sharing and duo.

What Riot's terms say

Riot's Terms of Service (last modified 1 December 2024) cover this in two places.

That second wording matters. It does not only cover someone logging into your account. "Otherwise engaging in activity intended to boost" is broad enough to include paid duo games. Riot's penalties under section 7 range from temporary bans to account termination.

How Riot defines boosting

Riot's Account Penalties and Enforcement FAQ (October 2025) uses these terms:

TermRiot's meaning
BoostingQueuing on an account that is not your own to inflate that account's MMR
HitchhikingQueuing with another account, usually a booster, to get carried to a higher division
Account sharingGiving or selling an account for use by someone other than the original creator
Ranked manipulationThe umbrella term, including boosting, intentionally losing in Flex, or using deranked accounts to push another account up

So in Riot's terms, account sharing for ranked is "boosting" and paid duo is "hitchhiking". Both are ranked manipulation.

The penalties

For smurfing and boosting, Riot's FAQ says the penalties apply to both the booster and the boosted account:

Where account sharing is tied to ranked manipulation, Riot says it starts by suspending the account and removing the boost and related rewards, regardless of how often the account was shared. Separately, Riot's support pages say account sharing alone can lead to a permanent ban.

LP and MMR gained from boosting are reverted when Riot catches it, so a boosted rank can disappear.

What Riot actually detects

Riot has said more about its detection in the last year than ever before.

Vanguard Anti-Boost

Riot's August 2025 dev update said Vanguard helps detect shared, sold or botted accounts, and that it had started acting on boosted accounts as of patch 25.18. A "Rank Manipulation" report option was added in patch 25.13 to collect data. In September 2026, Riot's anti-cheat team reported around 296,000 accounts actioned for rank manipulation across League and VALORANT. Reports describe the system flagging accounts that gain much of their ranked progress while a much higher-rated player is logged in, and accounts whose performance suddenly jumps far above their history.

MMR, not visible rank

Riot's FAQ says boosting detection looks at the account's MMR, not the rank you see. A Silver account suddenly beating Diamond-level opponents stands out.

Multiple signals, not one

Riot says a shared IP address alone does not flag an account. It checks several signals together before acting. That cuts both ways: one odd login will not ban you, but a pattern will.

Player reports

Riot tells reporters when it acts on a rank manipulation report and whether LP was refunded. Teammates and opponents can and do report suspicious games.

Account sharing vs duo: the honest comparison

Someone else logs inYesNo, you keep your login
Riot's name for itBoostingHitchhiking
Main detection signalsLogin and hardware changes, performance spike on the accountClimbing mostly while queued with a much stronger player
Your own playNoneYou play every game

Duo removes the biggest risk factor, which is another person and another machine logging into your account. It also means your account's performance stays your own, since you are still playing your role. Riot re-enabled duo queue at every rank, including Challenger, for 2026 in most regions. But duo is not risk free. Riot's Anti-Boost targets hitchhiking too, and hitchhikers can lose the rank they gained.

How to lower the risk

  1. Choose duo over account sharing. Our duo boost keeps your login with you. A pro from our team queues with you and you play your own games.
  2. Keep orders modest. Small, steady climbs look like normal improvement. A jump of several tiers in a few days is the pattern detection is built to find.
  3. Play some of your own games. An account whose only wins come with one duo partner stands out more than one with a normal mix.
  4. Never share your login on a main you cannot afford to lose. A third offence is permanent, and the account's skins go with it.
  5. Consider not boosting at all. League coaching carries no ban risk and fixes the reason you are stuck.

What we do on our side

For solo orders such as a division boost, the pro plays with appear offline on, every game is logged in your live order chat, and you can request a refund before work starts. None of that removes the terms-of-service risk described above. We would rather you choose with the facts in front of you.

Quick answers

Can you get banned for elo boosting in 2026?

Yes. Riot's enforcement FAQ lists 3 day, 14 day and permanent bans for repeat offences, for both the booster and the boosted account.

Is duo boosting against Riot's rules?

Yes. Riot's terms ban activity intended to boost an account's rank, and Riot calls paid duo "hitchhiking". It is lower risk than sharing your login, but not risk free.

Does Riot remove boosted LP?

Yes. Riot says all LP and MMR gained through boosting is reverted, and ranked rewards can be removed.

Does a VPN or shared IP get you banned?

Riot says a shared IP alone is not enough to flag an account. It looks at several signals together.

Is any boost 100 percent safe?

No. Any service that promises that is not telling you the truth.
