On patch 26.21 (released 21 October 2026), the best champions to climb low elo are ones that win games on their own without needing a coordinated team: Cho'Gath or Garen in top, Warwick in jungle, Malzahar or Ahri in mid, Miss Fortune in bot and Leona or Lulu in support. Each one is simple to execute, punishes the mistakes low ranked players make most, and stays useful when your team is behind. Below is why each pick works, not just that it does.
What makes a champion good for low elo
Tier lists built on high elo data do not always carry down. In Iron to Gold, games are decided by different things:
- Mistakes go unpunished, or get punished hard. Players overextend, chase and fight without vision. Champions that punish this win more.
- Teams rarely group well. A champion that needs perfect follow-up loses value. One that makes plays alone gains it.
- Games run long and messy. Champions that keep scaling or stay tanky through bad fights are safer.
- Mechanics fail under pressure. A simple kit you can hit every game beats a strong kit you hit half the time.
Mobalytics' low elo tier list for patches 26.20 and 26.21 names Yone, Cho'Gath, Viktor, Jinx and Lulu as its top climbing picks below low Diamond. We use that as a starting point and add picks that suit players still learning the game. Note that patch 26.21 nerfed Yone, Jinx and Viktor, so those three are a little weaker than the list suggests until it updates.

Top lane
Cho'Gath
Cho'Gath's ult, Feast, deals true damage, and every kill with it gives him a permanent stack of bonus health. That means he gets harder to kill every game you play, even if you fall behind early. Rupture knocks enemies up, and in low elo players walk into it constantly. He does not need a fed team to matter: a tanky Cho'Gath who walks into five people still wins fights for his carries. Mobalytics lists him among its top low elo climbing picks for 26.20 and 26.21.
Garen
Garen is the classic learning top laner for good reasons. His passive heals him when he avoids damage for a few seconds, so bad trades cost little. Decisive Strike gives speed and a silence, and Demacian Justice executes low health targets. You can focus on wave management and map awareness instead of combos, which is exactly what most low elo top laners need to practise.
Jungle
Warwick
Warwick's Blood Hunt lets him sense enemies who drop to low health and gives him bonus movement speed toward them. In low elo, someone is always low health and too far forward. Warwick turns that habit into kills and early dragons. His healing from basic attacks lets him clear the jungle on his own without a leash, and his ult is a long range suppress that starts fights for you. The kit tells you where to go, which makes him one of the easiest junglers to learn pathing on.

Mid lane
Malzahar
Malzahar is one of the most forgiving mid laners for low elo. His passive, Void Shift, blocks one ability and recharges when he avoids damage, so early ganks often fail. His Voidlings and Malefic Visions clear waves without risk. His ult, Nether Grasp, is a point and click suppress, so you cannot miss it, and it deletes the enemy carry who walks up alone. AltChar's patch 26.21 tier list also has him among its best mid laners across all ranks.
Ahri
If you want a mid laner with more skill expression, Ahri is the pick. Charm sets up kills on enemies who face check bushes, which happens a lot in low elo. Spirit Rush gives three dashes, so you can engage, reposition and escape inside one fight. That safety matters when your team does not peel for you.
Bot lane
Miss Fortune
Miss Fortune got a direct buff on patch 26.21: Bullet Time's crit damage went from 130 to 145 percent, and Make It Rain got more base damage. Bullet Time already wins fights against teams who stand clumped in choke points, which describes most low elo teamfights. Her lane is simple, her damage is high from early levels, and her Strut passive gives movement speed out of combat for roaming and rotating. That makes her a safe bot lane pick on this patch.
Jinx is still on Mobalytics' low elo list because her passive resets in long, messy fights. Patch 26.21 trimmed her base health and attack damage growth, so expect her to be a touch weaker until it settles.
Support
Leona
Leona starts the fight herself. Zenith Blade pulls her to a target, Shield of Dawn stuns, and Solar Flare catches whoever is standing in the wrong place. In low elo, enemy bot lanes stand in the wrong place a lot. She is also very tanky early, so engaging is low risk even if your ADC is slow to follow.
Lulu
Lulu is the other half: a support who keeps your carry alive. Wild Growth knocks up enemies around the target and adds a lot of health, which turns a dive into a kill for your team. Whimsy polymorphs the most dangerous enemy. She is on Mobalytics' low elo list for both 26.20 and 26.21.
How to actually climb with these
- Pick two champions for one role and stop there. Knowing one champion well usually matters more than its tier. Matchups, power spikes and combos all take games to learn.
- Play to the champion's win condition. Warwick hunts low health targets, Cho'Gath stacks Feast, Malzahar waits for a carry to step up. Know what your pick wants and do that every game.
- Review your losses, not your wins. Most low elo losses come from deaths before objectives. Find yours.

Quick answers
Which patch is this list for?
Patch 26.21, released 21 October 2026. Check the patch number in your client: champion strength changes every two weeks.
What is the easiest champion to climb with in low elo?
Garen in top or Malzahar in mid. Both have simple kits, sustain or safety built in, and abilities that are hard to miss.
Is Jinx still good for low elo?
She is still on low elo tier lists, but patch 26.21 nerfed her base health and attack damage growth. Miss Fortune got buffed on the same patch.
How many champions should I play to climb?
Two or three in one main role. A small pool gives you a more consistent win rate, and win rate is what raises your MMR.
