Ranked in Marathon is an extraction run with a score target. Before you drop, you equip a Holotag, which sets the loot value your crew has to bring out. Extract with enough value and you gain rank progress. Extract short of the target and you gain nothing. Die or fail to extract and you lose progress. There are six ranks, Bronze to Pinnacle, each split into three tiers. This guide covers how the system works as of 29 October 2026, during Season 2 and its Nightfall Refresh.
The six ranks
| Rank | Tiers |
|---|---|
| Bronze | III, II, I |
| Silver | III, II, I |
| Gold | III, II, I |
| Platinum | III, II, I |
| Diamond | III, II, I |
| Pinnacle | III, II, I |
You climb by earning Ranked Points (RP). Rank resets with each season. The Nightfall Refresh update on 6 October 2026 (version 1.1.9.2) also reset Rank, along with Runner, Cradle and Faction levels, vault contents and zone access, so everyone is climbing again from the start right now.
How a Ranked run works
- Get a Holotag. Every Ranked run needs one. You can buy one or take one from another runner. A Holotag is tied to a rank, and you can use the one for your rank or any lower rank.
- Bring a loadout that meets the ante. Ranked has a minimum gear value, so you cannot drop in naked to farm points.
- Loot for score. Your score is the credit value of high-value loot you extract. Ammo, consumables and anything you brought in do not count.
- Extract. If the crew meets the Holotag's target and gets out, you earn RP. Looting extra Holotags and Tag Chips from other crews adds bonus RP on top.
What you win and lose
| Result | Rank progress |
|---|---|
| Extract and meet the target | RP gained, more if you looted extra Holotags or Tag Chips |
| Extract below the target | No RP, but no loss |
| Die or fail to extract | RP lost, based on the crew's combined loss penalty |
At launch, failing a run at Diamond or Pinnacle cost the exact value of your score target, which made the top ranks much harsher than the bottom ones. Bungie has not published a full RP table, so we do not list per-run point values here.

What changed from Season 1 to Season 2
Ranked launched as a beta in Season 1. The first Ranked weekend ran from 21 to 24 March 2026, it was open on weekends only, and it needed runner level 25. Season 1 split Ranked into two queues by gear value:
- Low Stakes: a 3,000 credit gear ante, for Bronze, Silver and Gold Holotags.
- High Stakes: a 10,000 credit gear ante, for Platinum, Diamond and Pinnacle Holotags.
Season 2, which started on 2 June 2026, merged High Stakes and Low Stakes into a single Ranked mode. The official patch notes do not list the new ante, Holotag prices or score targets, and community numbers disagree, so check the Holotag screen in game before you plan a run around a number.
How to climb without bleeding RP
- Play to extract, not to fight. A run below target costs nothing. A death costs RP. When the run goes wrong, leave with what you have.
- Use your crew's loss penalty in your head. The penalty is shared, so one reckless teammate can cost the whole crew.
- Pick the Holotag you can actually fill. You can drop with a lower rank Holotag. An easy target you extract with beats a high one you die chasing.
- Take Holotags from other crews. They are the main source of bonus RP and lower your rivals' chances at the same time.
- Know the zone. Knowing where high-value loot sits and where the exits are matters more in Ranked than aim.
- Do not queue on a tilt. Two failed extractions in a row is a good point to stop for the day.
Rewards
Ranked rewards are based on the highest rank you reach in a season, not where you finish. Past rewards have included titles, gun styles, Runner Shell styles and player backgrounds. Some cosmetics arrive at the end of the season rather than straight away.
Help with Ranked
If you want a rank for the season reward and not the weekly stress, our Marathon Ranked service climbs to the rank you pick, either on your account or with you in the crew. If you are not yet at the level Ranked asks for, leveling gets you there first. For gear and credits to cover the ante, raid runs extract loot in the zone you pick.
On piloted orders, a pro logs into your account and you follow every run in the live order chat. You can get a refund before work starts. Account sharing goes against Bungie's terms of service, so a piloted climb carries real account risk. Playing in the crew with a pro avoids sharing your login.
