On FACEIT for CS2, Level 1 covers 100 to 500 elo, and each level after that has its own band up to Level 10, which starts at 2,001 elo and has no ceiling. The full table is below. Elo goes up when you win and down when you lose, and the amount depends on how likely your team was to win before the match started. Beat a stronger team and you gain more. Lose to a weaker one and you drop more.

The elo bands are FACEIT's own, from its CS2 elo and skill level support page. The player shares are a count by CSDB of about 1.9 million ranked players across five regions in July 2026. FACEIT does not publish an official distribution, so treat those shares as a snapshot.
What the levels mean in practice
Levels 1 to 3
New accounts and casual players. Level 1 is small because elo has a floor of 100 and most players climb out of it quickly. If you are here, fundamentals win games: crosshair placement, not peeking alone, buying with your team.
Levels 4 to 6
The busy middle. Levels 4 and 5 together hold more than a quarter of ranked players. Bands here are 150 elo wide, so a good week can move you a full level. Utility and trading start to separate players.
Levels 7 to 9
Solid players with a real game plan. Bands widen as you climb: Level 8 is 220 elo wide and Level 9 is 250. Expect opponents who punish bad rotations and lazy smokes.
Level 10
Everything from 2,001 up. Because there is no upper limit, two Level 10 players can be very far apart. Pros sit far above the entry line. That is also why Level 10 looks large in the table: it is the whole top of the ladder squeezed into one badge.
How elo gains and losses work
FACEIT uses an elo system. Its support pages say the amount you gain or lose is linked to your team's perceived likelihood of winning. In plain terms:
- Before the match, FACEIT compares the two teams' elo and works out who is favoured.
- If the favourite wins, they gain a little and the other team loses a little.
- If the underdog wins, they gain a lot and the favourite loses a lot.
- When the teams are close, a win and a loss move you by about the same amount.
Your level updates as soon as your elo crosses a band edge, so one match can promote or demote you.
Why does that matter? If you keep getting small gains and big losses, you are usually the favoured side in your lobbies. If you queue with a much higher rated friend, the team average goes up, the match expects more from you, and wins pay less.
Seasons and soft resets
FACEIT now runs CS2 in seasons with soft resets. Season 8 started on April 22, 2026 with a soft reset and 10 placement matches to set each player's starting elo. Your elo was hidden until placements were done.
Season 9 started on August 5, 2026. FACEIT described its reset as lighter than Season 8 and said it factors in recent form: activity, win rate and FACEIT Rating across your last 50 games. Players with fewer than 20 Season 8 wins took an extra inactivity adjustment. The top of Level 10 is compressed the most at each reset, so the very highest elos come down further than mid-level players do.
FACEIT Rating is a newer impact metric that arrived with Season 8. It feeds into the season reset. Elo is still the main number that decides your level.
Challenger
Challenger is a separate badge for the top 1,000 players at Level 10. It is a position, not an elo band. If players above the cutoff gain elo faster than you, you can lose it without losing a game.
Starting elo for new players
New players do not all start in the same place. FACEIT says starting elo for new CS2 accounts can be based on their Premier rating if they meet minimum requirements. After that, placements and normal elo rules take over.
How to climb faster
- Queue with players near your elo. Big gaps in a party change the expected result and shrink your gains.
- Finish placements seriously. They set your starting elo for the whole season.
- Stay active before a reset. Inactive players get a bigger downward adjustment.
- Pick a small map pool. FACEIT has its own veto, and knowing three maps well beats knowing seven badly.
If you want a pro on the account for a set climb, a FACEIT level boost is priced by start and target level, with every match logged in a live order chat. Be aware that account sharing breaks FACEIT's rules, and FACEIT runs its own anti-cheat and account checks, so the risk here is higher than on Valve's queues. A safer route is CS2 coaching, where a pro reviews your demos and you climb on your own. If your goal is Valve's own ladder instead, see the Premier rating service.
