Marvel Rivals has nine competitive ranks. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster and Celestial each have three divisions, from III up to I. Eternity and One Above All sit above that with no divisions. Every division takes 100 rank points: wins add points, losses take them away, and the Chrono Shield can stop a loss from dropping you a division. At each full season reset you play 10 placement matches, starting from your last season's final rank minus three divisions.
All Marvel Rivals ranks in order
| Rank | Divisions | Share of tracked PC players (Season 10) |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | III, II, I | 9.17% |
| Silver | III, II, I | 24.52% |
| Gold | III, II, I | 20.44% |
| Platinum | III, II, I | 22.06% |
| Diamond | III, II, I | 15.67% |
| Grandmaster | III, II, I | 6.77% |
| Celestial | III, II, I | 1.29% |
| Eternity | None | 0.04% |
| One Above All | None | 0.05% |
That makes 23 ranks in total: 21 divisions plus Eternity and One Above All. NetEase does not publish a rank distribution. The shares above are LFCarry's count of about one million tracked PC profiles from September 11 to October 8, 2026, the first four weeks of Season 10. Console players are not included, and early season numbers lean low because many players are still climbing back after the reset.
Even so, the shape is clear. Silver to Platinum holds about two thirds of tracked players. Reaching Diamond puts you in roughly the top quarter, Grandmaster in the top 8%, and Celestial in the top 1.4%.
How rank points work
- Each division is 100 points. Reach 100 and you move up a division. A full tier is about 300 points.
- Wins add points and losses subtract them.
- The amount is not fixed. Guides report that the result, your performance and MVP-style recognition all play a part, but NetEase has not published the formula.
- Above Celestial, you keep earning points without divisions. One Above All goes to the top 500 players by points.
Because NetEase has not released exact per-game values, any number you see online for "points per win" is an observation from players, not a rule. What holds everywhere: win more than you lose and you climb, and winning against tougher lobbies helps more than stomping easy ones.

Rank protection: the Chrono Shield
The Chrono Shield is Marvel Rivals' safety net against deranking. When a loss would drop you out of your current division, a shield charge absorbs it and you stay where you are. Once the charge is used, the next loss that would derank you goes through.
Shield charges recharge over time as you keep playing. Guides note that event rewards called Chrono Shield Cards can add extra charges. Different guides disagree on exactly which tiers have protection and how fast it recharges, and the rules have been tuned across seasons, so check the shield icon in your rank screen rather than relying on a fixed rule.
What it means in practice: one bad game at 0 points is not the end. Two or three in a row usually is.
Placement matches and season resets
Since Season 5, every full season starts with placement matches instead of a flat rank drop. Here is how it works:
- The game predicts your starting rank as your previous season's final rank minus three divisions.
- You play 10 placement matches. The predicted rank is used for matchmaking during placements.
- After the 10th game, your real rank is set, moving up or down from the prediction based on how you did.
There are caps at both ends:
| Last season's final rank | Predicted starting rank |
|---|---|
| Celestial II, Celestial I, Eternity or One Above All | Grandmaster II |
| Most ranks in between | Final rank minus three divisions |
| Bronze III to Silver III | Bronze III |
Example: finish a season in Diamond II and your new season starts from a prediction of Platinum II. Finish in Eternity and you start from Grandmaster II, no matter how high your points were.
Mid-season updates
Each season has a mid-season update, the ".5" patch. Recent mid-season updates have not reset rank, so you keep your tier and points. Season 10 began on September 11, 2026, and Season 10.5 landed on October 9, 2026 without a reset. NetEase had not confirmed a date for Season 11 at the time of writing.
Unlocking ranked
Competitive opens at account level 15. You also need to finish your placements in a season to qualify for that season's ranked rewards.
Climbing tips that match the system
- Take placements seriously. Ten games set your whole season. Play them rested, on heroes you know.
- Use the shield, do not lean on it. If you just burned a Chrono Shield charge, take a break before the next game.
- Pick a role and two or three heroes. Team compositions decide a lot of Rivals games, and being the reliable tank or support wins more than flexing badly.
- Climb before the season ends. Your final rank is what the next season's prediction uses, so every division you add now saves three divisions of work later.
If you want help with a climb, a Marvel Rivals duo boost puts a pro in your party so you play on your own account. For a fixed number of victories, Marvel Rivals wins may suit better than a full rank order. Account sharing breaks NetEase's terms of service, so keep that in mind if a pro plays on your account. If you would rather improve your own play, coaching covers hero pools, positioning and team fights.
