Fortnite ranked has eight ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion and Unreal. Every rank below Unreal has three divisions, I to III. Progress comes mostly from placement, then from eliminations, and early exits cost you. Unreal is the top rank: once you reach it you cannot be demoted for the rest of the season, and you get a leaderboard number instead of a progress bar. Ranks reset at the start of every season, but your hidden skill rating carries over, so you climb back fast. Right now that is Chapter 7 Season 4, Override, which started on August 20, 2026 and is expected to end around October 31.
All Fortnite ranks in order
| Rank | Divisions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | I, II, III | Lowest rank |
| Silver | I, II, III | |
| Gold | I, II, III | |
| Platinum | I, II, III | |
| Diamond | I, II, III | |
| Elite | I, II, III | Single rank until update v40.20 |
| Champion | I, II, III | Single rank until update v40.20. Champion or Unreal qualifies you for Division 1 Cups |
| Unreal | None | Global leaderboard number, no demotion for the rest of the season |
Older guides list Elite and Champion as single ranks. Epic split them into three divisions each in update v40.20, so there are now 22 steps below Unreal. Up to Champion, your progress inside a division is shown as a bar.

How rank progress is earned
Epic does not publish a points table. There is no fixed rule that says one elimination is worth a certain percentage. What Epic and the guides that track it agree on is the order of importance:
- Placement matters most. Reaching the late game, the top 10 and top 5, gives the biggest boost.
- Eliminations come second. Kills late in a match are worth more than early ones, and eliminating higher-ranked players is worth more than eliminating lower-ranked ones.
- Early exits hurt. Getting eliminated early, especially with zero kills, costs a real chunk of progress.
Consistency beats one big game. A string of top-10 finishes with a couple of kills each moves you further than a single 12-kill game followed by three early deaths.
Can you drop a rank?
Yes, below Unreal. If your progress bar falls to zero, you drop back a division. Unreal is the exception: reach it and you keep it for the rest of the season, although your leaderboard position can still move.
Which modes share a rank
- Battle Royale and Zero Build share one rank. Since the Rivalry Rises season, progress in either mode moves the same badge and bar.
- Reload has its own ladder. Your Reload rank is tracked separately.
- Duos and squads. Teams are matched at the rank of the highest-ranked teammate, but each player keeps their own rank. Queueing with a much higher friend puts you in harder lobbies.
Season resets and placement
A rank reset happens at the start of every new season. Your visible rank goes back to unranked, but your underlying skill rating carries over. After the reset you play a placement match to reveal your starting rank, and because the game already has a good idea of your skill, you land near where you finished rather than at Bronze.
Chapter 7 Season 4 started on August 20, 2026. Most trackers expect it to end around October 31, but Epic has not confirmed the exact time, so check in-game before planning a late push.
Unlocking ranked and rewards
According to Epic's player support, ranked unlocks after you complete the "Outlast 500 players" quest from the Kickstart quests. From there, ranked play feeds a few rewards:
- The Axe of Unreal pickaxe unlocks the first time you reach Unreal in a season, with a new tier for each season you reach it again.
- Champion or Unreal makes you eligible for Division 1 Cups, the entry point to the FNCS pathway.
- Ranked matches give urgent quests that unlock seasonal ranked cosmetics.
Climbing tips that fit the system
- Play for top 10 first. Placement is the biggest source of progress.
- Take fights late, not early. Late kills are worth more and early deaths cost the most.
- Pick your mode on purpose. Battle Royale and Zero Build feed the same rank, so play the one you are better at.
- Push before the season ends. Your skill rating carries into the reset, so a strong finish makes next season's start easier.
Getting help with a climb
Account sharing breaks Epic's terms, so a boost where someone logs into your account always carries some risk. If you want to stay in control, a Fortnite duo boost puts a pro in your party. Keep in mind that teams are matched at the highest rank in the party. Fortnite coaching works on rotations and end-game decisions, which is where most rank progress is won.
For a climb from your current rank to a target, see the Fortnite rank boost page. A pro from the team plays your matches, you can appear offline, and every game is tracked in the live order chat.
Quick answers
What are the ranks in Fortnite in order?
Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion and Unreal. Every rank below Unreal has three divisions.
Do eliminations or placement matter more in Fortnite ranked?
Placement. Eliminations help, especially late in a match and against higher-ranked players, but early exits cost more than kills earn.
Can you lose Unreal in Fortnite?
Not during the season you reached it. Your leaderboard position can change, but you stay Unreal until the next reset.
Does Fortnite ranked reset every season?
Yes. Your visible rank resets each season, but your hidden skill rating carries over, so a placement match puts you close to your old level.
Do Zero Build and Battle Royale have separate ranks?
Not anymore. They share one rank since the Rivalry Rises season. Reload is still ranked separately.
